Artist Statement

I bring a lifetime of experiences, training and causes to my work.  I have great concerns for environmental and social issues. Art history, and anthropology are of great interest and creep into my work.  I have been described as a world citizen; which I am proud to be named. Seeing fertile land covered by agriculture and cows grazing in fields be stripped away replaced by Silicon Valley has greatly influenced me. I am not opposed to progress when done with wisdom, compassion and taking into account the effects on the environment. I am concerned about habitat loss for the many species we have living amongst us. Progress has  come with gentrification, unaffordable housing  and close to 10,000 homeless in Santa Clara county. We are all Americans the wall we build between each other based on wealth and race ar e not high enough.

I  graduated from San Jose State University  in 2017, with a BFA in Spatial Art .  My painting has moved in a new direction.  When I began painting my work was cultural, and was primarily representational. I believe I have grown and evolved in interests and direction. I have branched into abstract, textured and other mixed media on canvas. Unfortunately, this work has not been photographed and is  not included to date.  More work shall be added in the future.

It might take a lifetime to find out what it is we need to say.  The path of all this uncertainly is the process of exhausting all our possibilities until we actually stumble intto something that is useful to us, that speaks to a deep need within ourselves. I believe I have found that which speaks to me over a lifetime of living. At the same time, I like to think that in order for any of us to really do anything new, we can't know exactly what it is we are doing. But it is the aliveness of the unguarded intuition and the persistence of our own feelings that guide us to our discoveries. A visual product of juxtaposing items to develop a new artwork is part of the fun and message.  Each painting and artwork has a story or inspiration for it's creation. I work everyday creating art, it is a great healer, it is not a hobby, it is a fullfillment of my soul.

As I evolve as an artist so too will my website. I hope to add new projects, videos, an art forum and a shop with retail for members. If you wish to become a member you eventually will be added to a master list to be able to be part of an interactive exchange.I invite you to add your name and email address. This website like myself is a work in progress.

Thank you,

Carolann Espino
